Sporterium – The Cycle Event

ReesLeisure has a diverse mix of sports we cater for, Swimming πŸŠβ€β™‚οΈ in the form of Wessex Swim Schools, running πŸƒπŸΌβ€β™‚οΈevents with Winchester Half Marathon and the ABP Marathon in Southampton as well as Try Tri swim, bike and run.

But there was one sport which we love in our office that didn’t have its own standalone event and that was cycling πŸš΄πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ.

Over 3 years in the planning and a false start in 2017, we are delighted to announce we are finally bringing a cycling event into our portfolio. As with all of our events ReesLeisure design the event, build it and market it and for cycling we wanted to do something special – Sporterium was formed!

So what is a Sporterium I hear you ask?

Well there are 2 elements to our event: Non competitive and competitive one being called a Sportive the other a Criterium. Much to our marketing teams worry we threw the 2 together to create an SEO friendly word we can own from the outset. Sporterium.

I like it I think it sounds big and exciting like, it will have the size as the Sportive course reaches out over 100km through Hampshire and the speed as cyclists can whizz round a 1 mile long circuit in the city centre topping speeds of 30mph+.

Southampton has some very ambitious plans which have already started to turn this car favouring city into a Cycle City, and we for one are excited about playing our part and encouraging more people to get out there on their bikes.

In the words of the infamous Queen – Get on your bikes and ride!

Visit www.CycleSouthampton.co.uk for more information and join us on our first Sporterium Saturday 20th June 2020!
